Hey, I’m Grace, 21 years old Kenyan-Filipino currently living in France and I’ve been travelling alone ever since I was 17. So far I have been to over 13 different countries and for sure I plan on seeing more of the world in the future. I just love it all, from the different languages, cultures, cuisines, fashion etc. I love seeing how differently people live their lives and I for sure love the fact that I am able to be a part of this lifestyle even if just for a short while.
So far one of my favorite places I have visited is Dubai. I went there about a month (Jan 2017) ago before coming back to France from Kenya. I actually celebrated my 21st there. I’ve always been a solo traveler, but this time round as fate had it, I have a friend who lives in Dubai. This was an advantage for me as I had less that 2 weeks to discover Dubai. Being my first time there, I did not have the slightest clue on things I could do in such a short period. Knowing someone in a new place that you are visiting in a short span of time is always a life/time saver because then, they would know where to take you and what to see and a wider range of other activities you could do.
The night I arrived, We walked around and I kind of felt like I was in California because of all the palm trees. The following day the sight was even much better than I’d expected! And yes Dubai with all the posh sports cars, fancy sky scrappers, I definitely knew I was on holiday.
I went out almost everyday trying out new activities from Desert safari (which I had no idea what to expect, each turn we made into the thick sand I thought we would crash. Seriously you should check a video on desert safaris online, I sure wished I was prepared for that insane drive, but all my friend did was tell me to get in the car and she had this cheeky smile on which was later justified. Pretty sure I yelled my lungs out, it was awesome.
From jet skiing with a unique view of all these sky scrappers around, to parasailing and being able to see the amazing view of the artificial island shaped as a palm, to shopping at one of the biggest malls and being able to see the tallest building in the world- The Burj Khalifa. So much to do yet so very little time, it was magical, it felt so unreal.
Just when you think you couldn’t love it any more I learned that UAE (United Arab Emirates) is one of the most peaceful countries worldwide, they’ve never even been at war among themselves. If you’re a travel bug and enjoy adventures, shopping, sports you name it even ice skating, you would definitely love Dubai. I will without a doubt go back.
Dubai is Peaceful, fun, cultured, classy, chic, and definitely royalty.
Why did I decide to share?
I think we as Africans, it is high time we developed a travel culture among us. Something we lack. And not just Africans but the world at large for those who aren’t travel bugs yet! And I do not mean that you have to go to a far away land to say that you have traveled, we can start exploring the areas around us and portray that beauty to the world! Here’s to hoping this will inspire you to start traveling.
I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below! Thanks for Reading!
