Berber Painted Vase

Wheel-thrown in a family workshop outside Fès that has operated for three generations, this ceramic vase is painted entirely by hand using mineral-based pigments that deepen rather than fade with age. The geometric Berber motifs are drawn freehand — no stencil, no transfer — by craftswomen who learned the patterns as children. Each piece is slightly different. It is a container for things, yes, but also for a particular kind of knowledge that resists mass production.
